How to take right decision

After a week od session on Why to take right decision, the same managers assembld to discuss on How to take the right decision.
The discussion started with the following
1. You need to take decision, &
2. You need to take right decision (as discussed in previous session)

Point no 1 is vital because many a times decision is not taken because of the fear of not being able to take right decision. But not taking the decision may lead to failure. You must have heard, sung or taught to your children 'Humpty Dumpty'
Sir, one more jingle! You must be still reading jingle books than management books. One manager exclaimed.
I ignored the comment and continued. To take a right decision a person needs either an experience or the training.
'Nobody trained us. We learned ourselves' VP retorted.
I agreed with him and asked him his years of experience. 24 Years he told with great pride. I very politely asked him ' You want your managers also spent 20 plus years to learn on how to take decision or wish they are trained so that they start contributing early?
You need to take decision when there is an opportunity or when there is a problem.

You need to take agressive decision when there is an opportunity to reap the benefits of the opportunity.
You need to take conservative decision when there is a problem to reduce the severity and impact of the problem.
Person tends to take either aggressive or conservative decision based on his/her personalty but not based on requirements.

So the manager/leader need training to be able to take either agressive or conservative decision on analysing the issue.

Now let us look at how people take the decision. People need to take decision on self/family issues or professional issues on work.
people take either emotional decision or rational decision.
Emotional decisions are either for personal benefits or apperent benefits ie. to make the concerned people happy on the moment.
On self or family issues decisions for personal benefits are harmful for family and in long run to self also.  Personal benefit decisions in professioal set up initially benefit the person at the cost of Company benefit and person may not prosper or even sustain in the Company for long term. Apperent benefits on trivial issues where decision makes hardly any impact but the concerned people happy will have positive vibes. But on issues that impact the person or connected people apperent benefit decisions will give negative impacts/opinions on long term perspective. On professional ground apperent benefit decisions will pampar/please immediate senior but will have negative impact on team and superiors.

On the other hand rational decisions are based on
1. Analysing and understanding the issue
2. Impact of the issue on self, people and/or Company in short term and long term
3. Possible solutions and their impacts respectively
4. Implemetability and benefits of the decision narrowed down
5. Explaing and convincing the decision to self, concerned people and prepareing time chart of implementing decision.

Irrespective of issues (problem or opportunity) rational decisions are always preferred either in family front or professional front.

On this note I concluded the workshop on decision making.

Your honest and frank comments are solicited. You can also add points if you feel I missed any.
